Scholarships Available for Experiential Learning

Chatham University is pleased to offer competitive funds to support undergraduate students who wish to study abroad. Students may apply for funding from the initiatives listed below. Click here for the Application for Study Abroad Scholarships.  Scholarship amounts are subject to change.

THE BENTER INITIATIVE FOR GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP - $5,000

The goal of this initiative is to bring Chatham students into closer contact with the Muslim world in order to foster relationships and develop a deeper understanding of Muslim cultures in the Middle East. Awards of $2,000 are available to students who intend to study language and culture at a predominantly Muslim location in the Middle East. Additional funding may be available, depending on a student's demonstrated financial need. Students intending to study abroad for a minimum of one term may apply. Summer may be considered a term if the program length is at least 12 weeks.

INSTITUTE FOR STUDY ABROAD FOUNDATION (IFSA) FUNDS -  UP TO $4,250

Funding is available from the Institute for Study Abroad and Chatham University for students who wish to study in developing countries. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in and agree to complete one of Chatham's International Studies Certificates Programs. Awards of up to $4,000 are available to students who wish to study for a term abroad (Fall, Spring, or Summer). Awards of up to $8,000 are available for students who wish to study for a year abroad. Students intending to study abroad for a minimum of one term may apply. Summer may be considered a term if the program length is at least 12 weeks. VIRA I. HEINZ SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR WOMEN, Nonbinary and transgender global leaders - $5,000 +

This award for summer study or internship abroad is granted to three Chatham students during the first semester of their sophomore or junior year. It is intended to develop cross-cultural competency with a focus on international leadership. Further information is available on the Vira I Heinz program site. The application deadline is November 1st. (There is a separate application process.) THE GLENDA RICH DEBROFF '60 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND - $1200

This award is granted to a full-time Chatham student who is in good standing and has financial need. The award is intended to enrich the student's academic program as approved by the University and to provide opportunity for study and/or travel during summer.

THE SALLY MERCKE HEYM '63 MEMORIAL AWARD FOR CROSS CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING - $2200

This award is granted to a full-time sophomore or junior student with a GPA of 3.0. The award is intended to enrich the student's academic program as approved by the University, to provide opportunity for study and travel in a foreign country during summer study abroad, and through this experience, help to enhance international understanding and awareness on campus.

THE LORIN MAAZEL-RACHEL CARSON SCHOLARSHIP AWARD FOR ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD STUDIES - 

This award is granted to a Chatham student with a GPA of 3.0 or above for a summer field study/internship at the close of her sophomore or junior year. It is intended to enrich the student's academic program through environmental fieldwork during summer study abroad.

THE THEO COLBORN-RACHEL CARSON ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP AWARD FOR ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD STUDIES - $1400

This award is granted to a Chatham student with a GPA of 3.0 or above for summer field study at the close of her sophomore or junior year. It is intended to enrich the student's academic program through environmental fieldwork during summer study abroad.
