What is Included: Round-trip airfare, in country transportation, single occupancy premium housing on UNIC campus, housing in hotels with multiple occupancy during overnight excursions, cultural immersion activities as part of the field experience itinerary, travel insurance, welcome and farewell dinners are included.

Chatham undergraduate students may be eligible for a $1200 study abroad voucher. Study abroad voucher is a one-time subsidy from Chatham of $1200 toward a credit-bearing experience abroad. Full-time undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 30 credits, of which 15 credits must have been completed at Chatham prior to departure, are eligible for the $1200 study abroad voucher.
Students completing an International Studies Certificate may be eligible for an additional $1800 in funding.
What is not Included: Students are responsible for the cost of obtaining a valid passport, any visas (as necessary), all meals that are not included as part of the program fee and any entry fees, excursions or other costs incurred by the student during free time on the program.

Program Description

***This field experience is conditionally approved and will only run if health and safety conditions, including Cyprus visa and entry restrictions, US Dept. of State Travel Warning and CDC Travel Health Notice, permit.***

The location: Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean, is an important regional financial and tourist hub. The country has a high standard of modern living and over 300 days of sunshine annually. Cyprus has a remarkably diverse natural and cultural environment and English is widely spoken as a second language.
Nicosia, capital of Cyprus, combines both old and new in a busy modern commercial and business center and a centuries-old culture. The center of the city is its old quarter surrounded by a Venetian sandstone fortress wall with a moat and heart-shaped bastions. Mosques and palm trees give an oriental atmosphere to the old city. Wander round narrow streets with overhanging balconies and the beautiful restored pedestrian precinct with craft shops, cafes and taverns The new city spreads beyond the walls with a modern Europeanised center of high-rise buildings, office blocks, shops and pavement cafes. expanding into suburban residential areas.

Course Work and Highlights: Exploring Environmental Extremes (3 credits) aims to complement lectures on environmental physiology with site visits throughout Cyprus. For example, after discussing the physiological responses to high altitude exposure the students will visit the highest point in Cyprus (Mount Olympus - 6404 ft). The intention of this course is to promote understanding of environmental physiology by experiencing the impressive landscape and intense Mediterranean climate of Cyprus.
Students will also enroll in a 3 credit UNIC course taught by UNIC faculty. The courses included:

EUS-210, European Cultures,

DES-260, Photography I,

HS-215A, Management of Care,

Housing: Single occupancy premium UNIC residences; during overnight excursions, multiple occupancy hotels.

Prerequisite course:
Chatham undergraduate students must have good academic standing and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher at the time of application and at the commencement of spring 2021 semester. Students must have completed at least 30 undergraduate credits at the time of travel, including at least 15 credits completed at Chatham at the time of travel.
Students must have good judicial standing (to be verified by Office of Student Affairs) and good financial standing at Chatham (to be verified by Student Accounts).
Students must be current Chatham students at the time of the field experience to participate.

The minimum enrollment for this course is 8 students. Each field experience is self-supporting and must meet its minimum enrollment number or it will be cancelled.
