Program Description

Best of Both Worlds

Pittsburgh – a big city with small-town safety, charm, and hospitality – is frequently voted one of the most livable cities in the United States. Diverse and cosmopolitan, the Pittsburgh metropolitan area has about 2.5 million residents, including over 7,000 international students studying at its universities.

Like to attend major sporting events?
Visit a world-class zoo or amusement park? Chatham University is in a great location, offering students the comforts of a peaceful campus with access to a vibrant city and activities within minutes.

In Pittsburgh, you’ll find a wide range of cultural offerings, such as the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, art museums (including the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Andy Warhol Museum), and many shopping opportunities. The beautiful 640-acre Frick Park is a 15-minute walk from campus and has many trails for hiking and mountain biking. You can explore exciting caves, take hikes in pristine landscapes, and go camping and white water rafting in one of the many nearby state parks. Chatham is a short ride from the Pittsburgh International Airport, which has easy connections to other major U.S. cities and international destinations. All Chatham students receive bus passes that permit easy access to the amenities of the city.

Many of Chatham’s campus buildings (including residence halls) are historic mansions in the upscale Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Shadyside and Squirrel Hill. These small, friendly neighborhoods are located just minutes from the arts and commerce of Pittsburgh.

How to Apply

You must be a current university student attending a university abroad. To apply, you must have a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4-point scale). If your native language is not English, you must meet the minimum required scores on a standardized language exam (550/79 on TOEFL, 6 on IELTS). If your scores fall under those limits, you may be required to either take both academic courses and English language courses or complete Chatham’s ELP program before you are eligible for the Chatham Semester.

Interested students should submit the following:

• Completed Chatham Semester Application
• Official transcripts from all universities attended
• Bank verification letter showing sufficient funds for the semester or year.
• Standardized language exam results
• Support letter from Home University

Semester Application Deadline

Fall Semester June 1
Spring Semester November 1

Interested students should apply as early as possible to have enough time to get a student visa. Admission to the Chatham Semester does not imply degree admission to Chatham University. If you participate in the Chatham Semester and then want to become a degree-seeking student at Chatham, you must apply following normal application procedures.

Housing

Chatham Semester students are required to live on-campus. Students might live in one of our renovated historical mansions, or in residence halls that look like apartments. Some participants may also be qualified to follow their Chatham Semester(s) with a Chatham International Internship. If you are interested in the Internship program, please click on the map of the world and apply for the Chatham International Internship program.
